each suit is a doorway to deeper discovery.

I created Rooting for the Earth card deck as a tool to shift the way I relate to my fellow humans and with the more-than-human world. These cards invoke chance and whimsy, and inspire curiosity. I use them on nature walks and with friends, and they make great journal prompts for solo discovery.

Each suit features a different way to engage: questions, activities, facts, and fun! When I lead programs using this card, my role transforms: my responsibility is to create the conditions for folks to be vulnerable in a safe space. Through these cards, we forge connections, share memory, and reclaim our relationship to the planet.

See the suits:

  • Red cards are tone-setting quotes. They celebrate a richly diverse chorus of thoughts on human-nature relationships.

  • How many of your more-than-human neighbors do you know? Meet them in here in these green cards, then go find them out there.

  • Yellow cards are invitations to celebrate and explore the sensory smorgasbord that is Planet Earth.

  • Orange cards ask open ended questions to facilitate an ecosystem of shared experience. This suit makes great journal prompts, too.

  • What’s that called? Blue cards contain mini-activities that invite us to think about the way we name and identify (with) the world around us.
