2026 TRUCKS OF ART: this machine cleans cities!
the challenge:
“The Department of Sanitation, along with the Sanitation Foundation, is seeking artists to transform our 46,000-pound collection vehicles into roving works of art in Trucks of Art!
Trucks of Art is a zero-waste challenge: Artists will be using no-longer-wanted household paints, keeping them from going to waste in landfill.”
In early 2026, five artists were invited to the Department of Sanitation’s Central Repair Shop to bring our winning designs to life on collection vehicles. Along with a crack team of volunteers, I worked to turn a blank truck into a trash-eating monster in record time!
I hope that people are inspired by this truck’s message: we ALL have a responsibility to chip in and create a cleaner, safer NYC.
